Sandee's Lucky Clover Block

Lucky Clover Block - 7" finished block size

Fabric requirements:

4 - 3" squares green fabric
12 - 1 1/4" squares white fabric
2 - 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" strips of green text fabric for top and bottom sashing
2 - 1 1/2" x 7 1/2" strips for side sashing
Scrap green for stem
Wonder Under scrap for stem
Disappearing ink pen

Block construction:

Mark a diagonal line on each white square with disappearing ink

Sew 3 white squares onto each green square as shown.

Trim 1/4" from seam line, press seams open.

Sew all four blocks together, then attach top sashing and side sashing.

You can leave as is or make a stem like I did. I drew it on a piece of Wonder Under, which I then ironed onto a scrap of green, trimmed, then ironed onto the block. I appliqué stitched around the stem. I turned this into a mug rug!

February Monthly Giveaway!

Winner: Misti Creach! Email jamie@loulousfabricshop to claim your fat quarter bundle of Hometown Girl!
Boy have we got a couple of CUTE collections arriving this month! Vintage Picnic by Bonnie and Camille is expected to arrive Saturday! The long anticipated wait is nearly over.
We are still anxiously waiting on a delivery date for Hometown Girl by Pat Sloan. This collection is absolutely charming and some lucky fabric lover is going to win a fat quarter bundle!
The fabrics have such a cute, small town, country feel to them. One of our favorites is this text print:
Eek! Love, Love, Love it, probably because I grew up in a little country town with a population of 4000 and this fabric just screams home to me.

Lil' Red and a Fat Quarter Friendly Mini Quilt by Sandee Pacific

My fat quarter bundle of Lil Red from Loulou’s Fabric Shop arrived in mid December and between all the hustle and bustle of Christmas and New Years it took me a while to dig into it.

I really wanted to showcase how adorable this fabric is so I decided on bigger blocks. My mini quilt measures at 30x30. The quilt consists of 16, 7 1/2 inch blocks. 6 square in square blocks, 6 hourglass blocks and four squares in the middle. I finished it with a 2 inch border all around with fussy cut 2 inch corner squares.

I had intended to quilt it but in the end I tied it, because let's face it that's what Lil Red's Granny would've done!
I thought it would be fun to do a picture tutorial of my method for creating these blocks, let's get started!

Square in Square block - this is one of my favorites and it's so easy.

(all seams are sewn at 1/4" and pressed to the side)

Hourglass Block
Are you ready for more cuteness overload? There's a panel in the fat quarter bundle of Lil Red from Loulou’s Fabric Shop. It includes a Lil Red doll, skirt, cape, mini quilt, pillow and funny guy named Mr. Big!

Sweet Tweets

Have you seen this darling book by Erin Cox? You can find it in our shop here.
We are in love! Erin Cox uses free motion applique to create numerous simple, whimsical designs. The projects are fun and easy. If you're anything like me, I love applique but I am not a very patient person so I have a hard time actually completing anything I have to do by hand. Seriously, everything in this book is just simply adorable.
My personal favorite is the last one with the "love birds." I'm already thinking up ideas incorporating Sweetwater's newFirst Crush fabric collection.
Sew Pro Staff Member Trisha MacQueen used Erin Cox's techniques and created this adorable Christmas mini withHolly's Tree Farm fabric by Sweetwater.
The possibilities are limitless!
